Avete presente quella strana sensazione che si prova quando ci si sente per un momento in un posto magico: come se foste lontano dal modo reale, sopraelevati, in una stanza di luci calde e accoglienti, piena zeppa di cose coloratissime, dove non si sa da che parte iniziare ad esplorare. Ecco, così vi sentirete anche voi, immagino, una volta entrati da Oklahoma Cafè, in High Street poco lontano da Arndale.
Do you know that strange feeling of living in a fairytale? When everything around you seems kind of magic? That moment when it seems to you as you were far from the real world, in a cosy warm room, full of thousands of colourful things that make you unable to cope; you don’t know from where to start exploring everything and you feel overwhelmed with joy. That is exactly how I felt the first time I entered the Oklahoma Cafe – in Hight Street, close to the Arndale Centre.
Due grandi vetrine in una palazzina di mattoncini rossi si affacciano su Hight Street; due scalini anticipano l’entrata; una grossa porta in legno indica che si è arrivati; una leggera spinta e… eccovi nel Regno delle Fiabe!
Tutto, c’e di tutto!
Dai quaderni alle penne, dalle tazze ai biglietti d’auguri, dai gioielli a vecchi giochi per bambini, da decorazioni per le pareti a ciondoli e fermagli per capelli, dalle lampade ai cestini, a ghirlande di carta e di pon-pon che corrono per il soffitto!
Tutto.
Two big glass windows on a red bricks building look at High Street; two little steps forestall the main entrance; a big wooden door means we have arrived; push it and .. here you are, in the Realm of Fantasy! Here they sell everything!
Notes books, pens, cups, wishes cards, jewels, old toys, home decorations, wallpapers, hair stuff, lamps, waste baskets, paper garlands… Every – single – thing!
Quando si è immersi in quella magica atmosfera, intenti ad esplorare ogni piccolo dettaglio disposto su mensole e pareti stracolme di oggetti e forme colorate, anche l’aria si fa piena di profumi e sfumature, i suoni arrivano ovattati e gli occhi impazziscono di fronte a tutte quelle divertenti cosine da acquistare.
Vi lascio qualche foto, un piccolo assaggio di quel magico mondo che potrete trovare una volta varcata quella spessa porta di legno.
Here you are some shots I took from the inside of this magical location; it’s literally amazing! While I was there busy looking at the many objects well disposed on the shelves, hanging down from the ceiling or on the wall, the air seemed sweet and coloured too, the sounds came from faraway, from a distant world and my eyes got crazy, unable to know where to start looking around.

Non saprei nemmeno io come definirlo: Oklahoma è un regno-negozio di … divertimento e bellissime cose!
E ovviamente, non può mancare il reparto caffetteria. In un angolo della sala, dietro un bancone fatto di mattonelle in ceramica bianca, un simpatico barman in stile hipster prepara degli ottimi cappuccini. Provateli accompagnati da freschi muffin al cioccolato o soffici fette di torta alla carota. O ancora, un semplice croissant ripieno di marmellata ai mirtilli, come ho fatto io! Una deliziosa delizia per il palato! Tra l’altro, ho visto per caso il menù del pranzo e qualcosa mi dice che tornerò presto ad assaggiare nuove bontà! Ora perdetevi tra i colori di queste fotografie.
Sembrerà di sognare.
I don’t even know how to describe it: Oklahoma is a shop of … funny stuff!
Obviously, there is a cafe as well in Oklahoma. On a corner of the wide room, behind a white tiles desk, a trendy young guy makes perfect coffees. You should try it with a sweet chocolate muffin or with soft slices of carrot cake. Also, you could have a simple croissant filled with blueberry jam, as I did! It’s delicious!
Actually, I had a glance at the lunch menu and it all seemed tasty…I pretty know I will come back soon in order to try something really good!
